About Robii

In your light, I learn how to love
in your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest
where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do
and that sight becomes this art.

— Rumi

Performance and painting displayed in Kalakendra Gallery, During The exhibition” Practice- Praxis-Calibrations” Dhaka-2022

“Creating imagery is always mysterious. It is coming from the process of daily living, beliefs, and ethnic existence. My drawing, painting, and performance activities present an imaginary space that is beyond reality. It explains the autonomous existence of human spirits in the universe that is shapeless and infinite… —Abu Naser Robii ”

Abu Naser Robii is a performance artist whose work is a fascinating blend of personal involvement and impersonal act. His performances explore Chinese Zen, Indian mythology, Islamic and Christian lore, and other spiritual concepts while commenting on the grave situations that ominously preside over present-day realities.

Through his performances, Robii challenges the limits of modernism, negating the idea that art is simply a commodity or a means of archival preservation. Instead, he views art as a form of communication and uses his body as a site of action to put forward commentary on important issues such as the destruction of nature and self.

Robii’s work is inspired by his belief that the body is an investment in egotism in real life, but can be allowed to enter a transcendental stage through performance art. He frames his body “to occupy the space in a fragment of time,” using his evolving physique to reduce the meaning and narrate ideas and emotions.

As the founder-director of Porapara Space for Artists, Robii is deeply committed to facilitating new ideas and expressions that go beyond traditional modernist norms. His activism and performance work is a testament to his dedication to social and ecological concerns, and his performances are sure to captivate and intrigue art collectors and viewers alike.

Artist’s Statement:

As an artist, I’m constantly drawn to the enigmatic nature of creating imagery, which is deeply rooted in my daily experiences, beliefs, and cultural identity. My art is an unfiltered expression of my innermost thoughts and emotions, seeking to unveil the mysteries of the universe through the lens of the human experience.

In my drawing, painting, and performance activities, I strive to create an imaginary space that transcends the limitations of reality, offering a glimpse into the infinite and boundless universe that we inhabit. By exploring the autonomy of the human spirit, my art celebrates the unique essence of each individual, encouraging viewers to embark on their own personal journey of self-discovery.

I believe that the beauty and complexity of the human experience are best expressed through the language of art, where color, texture, and form serve as the building blocks of a visual narrative that speaks to the soul. Through my art, I aim to evoke a visceral response in viewers, tapping into the core of their being and inspiring them to contemplate their place in the universe.

Ultimately, my art is a testament to the power of the creative imagination, a driving force that allows us to connect with the world around us and discover our true selves. It is my hope that my work will ignite a sense of wonder and curiosity in those who encounter it, inspiring them to embrace their own creative potential and explore the mysteries of life.
